### Notes

#### **1)**

First tighten to a value of 25 Nm. Then to a value of 40 Nm.

#### **2)**

If at the prescribed tightening torque the holes in the nut and the shaft do not match, the nut must be tightened to a maximum of 60 Nm. Always secure this nut with a cotter pin!

#### **3)**

Setting the bearing clearance on a hub nut requires accuracy. First, make sure the hub is mounted correctly and that all parts are clean. Always use new nuts for reliability and safety. Tighten the hub nut to a torque of 20 Nm. Then turn the hub around a few times to allow the bearings to set and loosen the nut. Then tighten the nut to a torque of 7 Nm. Then it should be slackened 30 degress, this angle is half one flat of the nut. Make a mark on the washer behind the nut with a punch, level with a corner of the nut. Then slacken till the next flat of the nut is by the mark. Now lock the nut by staking it with a chisel into the groove in the stub axle (always use new nuts). Measure the axial bearing clearance with a clock micrometer, which should be between 0.025 and 0.10 mm. If necessary, adjust the nut to stay within these tolerances. Secure the hub nut by tapping some material into the groove of the shaft journal so that the nut will not come loose. Use an appropriate tool for a firm lock. Fill the hub cap with about 25 grams of grease for proper lubrication of the bearings and gently tap the hub cap back into place.

#### **4)**

When installing new rear wheel bearings or a new flexible coupling, it is essential to use a new spacer bushing. The old spacer is deformed and therefore no longer usable. After the bearings are packed with wheel bearing grease and installed in the hub together with the axle journal, a new spacer, the retaining rings and the spacer, slide the flexible coupling onto the axle journal. Tighten the nut on the end of the axle journal until the bearings are under preload such that a torque of up to 0.5 Nm is required to twist the axle journal.
