Information about Seat Covers and Panels

Quality #

There are several manufacturers of seat covers and panels for the classic Fiat 500. We have tested them from various manufacturers and have settled on the sets we now sell. They are not the cheapest seat covers and panels, but in our opinion they are the best. Good quality material, good fit and the right colours. Fiat van der Laan stands for quality, and we want to live up to that with our seat covers and panels.

Colours #

Amalfi #

Amalfi is the colour used on the standard red door and rear panels for a Fiat 500 F-L-R (not the High Quality ones). This Amalfi red is a colour that is darker than the red used on the Fiat 500 D and first series F and lighter than Bordeaux red.

Amalfi is not an original colour. We do sell seat covers in this colour to create a beautiful overall look if you prefer the non-high quality door panels in red. If you would like an original colour, choose ‘Red’ or ‘Bordeaux’.

Brown / Beige #

Various shades of brown /beige are sold on the market for seat covers and panels. It is very difficult to get everything in the same shade of brown. Our supplier ensures that the shade is virtually the same for all brown parts. Minor deviations are, of course, always possible. The shade of brown we sell is hazelnut brown, also known as “Nocciola”. This colour is the closest to the original colour. Sometimes this colour is also referred to as beige. The most important thing is that the colours are as close to the original as possible and are the best available on the market.

Vipla and Skai #

The seat covers are available in two types of material: Vipla and Skai. This is to get as close as possible to the original material that was used in those years.

Vipla is a type of imitation leather with a fine, leather-like texture. It is not real leather, but a synthetic material that looks and feels like leather. It is durable, smooth and often water-repellent.

The properties of Vipla:

Soft and leather-like feel
Matt or slightly glossy
Durable, tear-resistant, water-repellent
Often used for premium finishes

“Skai” is actually a brand name from Germany (from the company Konrad Hornschuch AG). It is widely used in furniture upholstery, car interiors, bags and other products that need to imitate real leather.

The properties of Skai:

Strong, thicker and supple
Highly resistant to wear and tear and sunlight
Feels sturdy, with a clear leather structure
Nowadays often used as a general name for imitation leather (such as ‘skai leather’)

High Quality panels #

Some door panels are available in ‘standard’ and high-quality versions. These are the door panels for the Fiat 500 F (second series), the 500 L and the 500 R. The colours of the standard panels are Amalfi, Ochre and Black. Below, we use photos to illustrate the differences.
