Zundapp

My name is Rens, I am 32 years old and the proud owner of a Fiat 500. I have always appreciated classic cars. When I was 16 and (finally) allowed to ride a moped/scooter, I chose a 1971 Zundapp. At the time, it was a 40-year-old moped and therefore an unusual choice for a schoolboy.

Charming little cars

When I moved out on my own, I unfortunately had to let the Zundapp go. But I always had the urge to own a classic car, yet I lacked the time, space, and money. When I moved in 2021, I had the space for a classic car. However, I didn’t necessarily have the technical knowledge or tools. After some research, the classic Fiat 500 turned out to be an accessible classic car. In terms of size, but also because almost all maintenance and refurbishment can be done by yourself. In addition, the 500 really appealed to me. They are such charming little cars. An icon!

Clear advice at Fiat van der Laan

So, in 2021, I bought my first little Fiat. A cream-coloured one. Recently repainted, with the engine in reasonable condition. However, the first technical defects soon came to light.
I tentatively tackled the first few jobs myself and discovered that it is indeed all very accessible. In my search for parts, I ended up at Patrick van Fiat van der Laan. I received clear advice and was helped with the repairs. And that is still the case! It is on the way to my work, so in recent years I have stopped by many times on my way home to pick up parts. Everything is always in stock, so the order is often ready the same day. Super nice!

I stood by and watched

In 2022, I took part in a Fiat 500 Club Netherlands tour for the first time. As it happened to start from my hometown, I signed up. It was so much fun. Since then, I have participated in many tours and events. Other members of the Fiat 500 Club Netherlands give me lots of tips and advice when I need it. Unfortunately, I once broke down during a tour with the Fiat 500 Club Netherlands. The nice thing is that all you have to do is open the bonnet and help comes from all directions. In the end, there were three men working on my Fiat while I stood by and watched.
I have now become quite hooked on this hobby and purchased my second Fiat in 2025. A light blue one. Of course, after purchasing it, I immediately went to Fiat van der Laan to have everything cosmetically and technically adjusted to my liking.

The Fiat really beats a Ferrari or Porsche

Driving the Fiat is the most enjoyable thing there is. You hear, feel and smell everything the car has to offer. With the roof open, I constantly drive with a big smile on my face, every single time. When you park at a terrace and settle down, it’s always a topic of conversation. Not a single time goes by without people giving you a thumbs up. The Fiat really beats a Ferrari or Porsche; not in terms of horsepower, but in terms of appeal.

I received clear advice and was helped with the repairs.
